Planting Plans
I am now specialising in this work: Choosing plants that are right for your soil, presenting them in plan form with photo moodboards showing seasonal interest. This process starts with a site assesment and survey, with bespoke designs to deliver the style and colour that you'd like in your garden. You can plant yourself or I can deliver a complete package of plan, source, plant. |
I specialise in the following areas, based on extensive plant knowledge and my own gardening experience:
Heidi, Fintry
"Holly has an invaluable knowledge of plants and knows what will work where. She has saved us huge amounts of money and time by advising which plants will be best for us."
Nick Thomson, Drymen
- Tough Plants; Trees, Shrubs, Perennials and bulbs for Scottish gardens
- Planting for the birds, bees and wildlife
- Vegetable gardens, potagers and cottage gardens
- Foliage, flowers, berries and seedheads - growing ingredients for bouquets and wreaths.
- Rose gardens and Sensory gardens, scented plants, textures, movement and sound.
- Prairie planting
- Plants for year round interest, colour for every season

Full Garden Design Process
Step 1 Full Consultation
Approx. 2 hour meeting, site visit and follow-up work
During this visit, we will look at your garden and I will discuss with you in detail what you would like to achieve. I'll bring books and images for reference to plants and gardens and we'll talk about possibilities and options that would work for you. I'll ask you lots of questions to establish a strong idea of what you're wanting in the garden, what style of garden and colour schemes you might favour. If you have a wish list or any photos or cuttings from magazines to show me, all the better. Following my visit, I will email you a report, confirming your brief in writing, outlining my initial design ideas.
Step 2 Site Survey
If you are happy to proceed, I will arrange for a site visit during which we can discuss the design in more detail. I will make a full survey of the garden, taking measurements, photographs and detailed notes of aspect, soil, site conditions, existing features and plants. I will give you an estimate of costs and propose a timescale for design work.
If the garden is particularly large or irregular in shape and levels, it may be necessary to arrange for a professional surveyor to make scale plans of the garden.
Step 3 Concept Design
The concept plan will show the proposed new layout for the garden design and this will be accompanied by a mood board to give you a visual idea of how the garden will look. I can design with computer visuals or hand draw. At this stage, I will mark out paths, lawns features, borders etc but not in specific detail. I'll discuss the design with you and we can make any changes during this meeting. At this stage we can specify materials to be used and the finer points of the design.
Step 4 Final design and planting plans.
Having discussed the concept plan, I will develop it, draw up final rendered plans and produce annotated drawings with measurements and specifications. Detailed planting plans would be done at this stage. I will meet with you again and present to you the finished design. You then have a number of options on how to implement the design. You could undertake the work yourself/ I could plant with you or you could arrange a contractor.
Additional Services:
I can monitor your garden work for a fixed fee or chargeable by the hour depending on the project.
On completion of work, I can draw up a maintenance schedule and help you keep the garden looking its best.
